Putting On My Runway Face...... 3 of My Beauty Tips and a Giveaway

I must admit that when I started this blog I didn't think I would be offering you unsolicited advice on my beauty tips, but then again, I never thought I would be living in the country driving a tractor and  raising donkeys either. But the truth is, even us country gals like to look our best from time to time. And while I make absolutely no claims to looking like a super model, I do like to put on a great face every now and then.
When I was in my corporate career, I didn't feel completely dressed without my base, blush and eyes, so I would be a frequent shopper at department store cosmetic counters. I mean who doesn't like to try new makeup in front of hundreds of shopping strangers in the middle of the mall at the cosmetic counter? And while the experience was a bit daunting and awkward for me, I continued trying and buying makeup over the years this way.

The Secret To A Healthy Life...... and a Giveaway

As you may or may not know, I am no spring chicken. I have plenty of young chickens on the farm...but I am not one of them.  But that's okay. Those young chicks have a hard time keeping up with me anyways.
What's not okay though, is not taking care of me and my health. I try really hard to create a balanced lifestyle for myself and my family and trust me...it's not always easy. Especially when all these fields will eventually need to be cut, the animals fed and being there for my kids, as a mom. And as tired as I may be some days...I do what I need to do to stay healthy ...and to keep those feet looking good.
I could tell you that the secret to my healthy life is kinda like running through a field of daisies...if it makes me happy I do it. See if I am healthy, I am happy. If I am happy, my husband is happy. If my husband is happy, the family is happy...  You get the picture.

In addition to running...through the daisies, I am committed to good health by taking vitamins everyday. The vitamin that has provided me a lot of benefit in reaching my commitment to good health is vitafusion™.  Honestly, I am not a huge fan of vitamins that take an hour to muster up the courage to swallow, cuz they are huge, or the smell is not so pleasant (you know the ones I'm talking about), so these are perfect because they look and taste like gummies... but just for me.
Each morning as I sit down with my morning hot tea and start my day, I take 2 MultiVites, but vitafusion™ gummy vitamins come in a variety of vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements that may help adults meet their health and nutrition needs*. In fact they have vitamins and supplements to meet your health needs through every stage of life including men, women, pregnant women and those 50+.  Another product benefit, vitafusion™ products are made in the USA. I love that, just like I love my daisies!

You can find vitafusion™  gummy vitamins at club stores, mass merchandisers, drug and grocery stores nationwide including: Costco, Walmart, Target and Walgreens. More information can be found at www.gummyvites.com.
I am not giving away any of my daisies today, although you are welcome to come run through them with me,  but I am giving away a $100 Visa gift card. Just leave me a comment telling me one way you maintain a healthy lifestyle. That's it. Easy, just like taking a vitafusion vitamins each day.
Good luck and here's to your health!

grateful for~
good health

Spring Won't Get The Best Of Me....No Way!

Whoever came up with the saying ‘No Pain, No Gain’ must have been born in the middle of nowhere Georgia..... out in the country.....on a long dirt road.... on a beautiful bright spring day.
Really. They were.

I am reminded of this, as I look around the property on this beautiful bright spring day, out in the country.... on a long dirt road.... surrounded by trees showcasing budding flowers, the pasture with its sprouting grass, and purple wildflowers as far as your eye can see.

Before I moved to Georgia, some many years ago I had no idea what pollen counts were, how to remove the fine yellow dust like substance that covered virtually everything you looked at, and how to control seasonal sniffles… allergies.

Oh, but it didn't take long to be quite the subject matter expert on how control those seasonal sniffles and coughs and more importantly try to prevent them.
Living on a farm, it’s inevitable that we are outside… a lot, whether it’s feeding our donkeys, dogs, cats, chickens, cutting the pasture or whatever other chores are necessary to keep the homestead going, so hunkering down inside eating popcorn watching the season finale of The Bachelor isn't an option while things are blooming outside the window. Besides, it would be a much better for the ratings if I proclaim my love for all things spring. If you are fan of the show you know what I am talking about. By the way Chris Harrison, Juan Pablo is not going to say he loves her...so back down.
And although total avoidance isn't possible, prevention may be… with my HALLS® drops. Actually it’s quite the staple for my husband and I, as being down and out, just isn’t an option. Besides the donkeys don’t know how to operate the tractor. The minute I begin to feel the sore throat or unstoppable cough coming on, I know exactly what my course of action is… sucking a HALLS drop... while I am on the tractor of course.

And if you are anything like me and prefer to enjoy the beauty of the spring season outdoors without the cough and sniffles… you’ll want to as well, on or off a tractor.

What do you do to keep allergies away?

HALLS Drops for Allergy Season
When you have a cold, HALLS is the #1 cough drop that most people choose for effective relief. Did you know that the same HALLS you trust is also effective for allergy-related coughs and sore throats? Don’t let allergies get the best of you. Grab your allergy cough by the throat and try HALLS Cough drops or HALLS Breezers throat drops as a complement to your primary allergy medication regimen. Click here to learn more.

Grateful for~

Resolutions for the New Year

If you are anything like me, you have at one point or another sat down prior to the New Year and jotted down some resolutions…… a few  goals and some key things you wanted to do in the upcoming year.
And perhaps your resolutions sort of looked like mine.  Resolutions like......... Lose ten pounds by the end of the week (even though it was already Wednesday) Fall in love or be abundantly happy staying single, save more money and enjoy life to the absolute fullest.  Am I right, do your resolutions look similar?

Here’s one for you. Did you know that approx. 45% of Americans usually make a New Year’s Resolution and out of that number only 10% are successful in achieving their resolutions? Yes, only 10% lose that 10lbs, stay single and happy, save more money, and enjoy life to the fullest.  Sadly, I was never the 10%. Most times, I could not make it past the first month without some sort of failure. So for a few years,  I stopped resolving, ended the yearly ritual and just adapted a one day at a time mantra. Then I got older and got married and had kids. Thankfully, the 'fall in love' resolution was a success.
Now, my life embraces a whole different set of goals and resolutions. Since I am not getting any younger, I am constantly thinking about how the activities and choices that I make daily will have a significant impact on the way I age.   And it’s not just something for me to think about, but my children and husband as well.  That is why the Get Old initiative is so meaningful.  Get Old is an initiative developed by Pfizer to challenge people of all ages to rethink what it means to Get Old and take a more active role in their health and quality of life at every age.
Now I look forward to sitting down and creating a list of resolutions that I am determined to reach in the New Year. In fact, studies have shown that people who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals.  So here are my Resolutions for 2014. Stay fit and healthy through exercise and proper eating. Spend more quality time with my husband. Continue to evaluate my quality of life and make any necessary improvements along the way. Create more family memories.  Give back more to others and to my communitySo tell me, what are you doing to Get Old well?

3 Tips for a Healthier Life

I have never shared my journey to get to motherhood before, but it was a long, bumpy road. A road filled with emotion, heartache, frustration, uncertainty and ultimately joy. Much Joy. Joy to the 3rd degree.

It’s no secret, but I am a bit older than most of the 20 something year old mom’s waiting for their kids in the car ride line at school.  But that’s okay … I tell myself that my kids will keep me young... with or without a few gray hairs.  And so it is for that reason,  I do everything I can to make sure my future is healthy, active and overall I am living an amazing life, for myself and for my family.
And unlike my road to get to motherhood, this road that I travel for my future is a bit clearer, although often times, chaotic and crazy.
Here are my 3 "B’s"  to ensuring a happy and healthy future.
Be Happy.  Did you know that happier people live longer and tend to be healthier?  Studies (like this one and this one)have shown that happier people have less risk of high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease.  I do my best each day to wake up with a happy heart and go to bed with a happier heart. I make a note of everything that I am grateful for. I say Thank You.
Be Healthy.  Exercise is built into my lifestyle. A workout, whether it is at the gym or a walk in the park, is scheduled like any other appointment on the weekly calendar.  Staying healthy also includes eating right… when I am not secretly grazing off my kids' dinner plates.
Balance-I am always seeking to find balance in my life.  On the other side of motherhood and being a wife, is a passionate woman who likes to be creative.  My energy may take me to a project, painting or gardening.  When I am doing those things that I love doing, I am not spending time worrying or thinking about the other side (motherhood).  I immerse myself in whatever I am doing... to be in that moment.  I find that these moments and time focusing on myself, allow me to be a better mother, wife, and friend.
What decisions are you making now to live an abundantly happy life today and tomorrow? I want to know.

 Grateful for~
The chance to be a mom....and to be healthy

The Beach Trip of the Year....... the Jellyfish and a Giveaway

It was going to be the trip of the year. Plans were made, route was mapped, and bags were packed. Car was fully loaded, gas tank was full, dogs were brought to Doggie Daycare and we were on our way. Florida Coast here we come! It was the beach trip that my children had been looking forward to for 361 days.
Does this ever happen to you.........You checked your list several times, think you have everything you need, just to find out when you get to your final destination ......you don't.
Now I am not talking about the rad surf boards that my kids were going to be riding the waves on or the  99+ sunscreen that I slather all over the family to prevent that first day sunburn, or those cute Jack Roger sandals and the new sundress that I couldn't wait to wear with my sun kissed skin. See, I remembered all of that. It was on my list for the trip that I had planned all year.
What I didn't prepare for was the unexpected. The things that I couldn't have expected on that long awaited, 361 day anticipated Beach Vacation. Jellyfish. Yes, I said Jellyfish, and boy do they hurt. Did you know that a group of Jellyfish are referred to as a swarm or terror in the water? And that’s exactly what my son thought when he came in contact with them on our first day at the beach.
The picture above is my son before his Jellyfish encounter.
There are three things you should do when you are stung by Jellyfish. The first is to remain calm. This may be difficult if you are seven years old and have never been stung before. The second is to get out of the water. The third is to seek medical attention. Not knowing if this was a minor annoyance or life threatening emergency so we sought out medical care at a local Walgreens Healthcare Clinic. I was happy to see that this clinic was staffed with a knowledgeable physician assistant who treated my son with tenderness and care.  Luckily my son was not embedded with any stingers and they were able to administer the appropriate first aid to him and make him smile. Important outcomes to any mom  or dad.

So now that you know how to treat Jellyfish stings, here are a few things that you may not know about Walgreens Healthcare Clinics.
  • Walgreens Healthcare Clinics are staffed with licensed and board certified Nurse Practitioners who can help you manage and monitor a chronic condition such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma or high cholesterol.
  • Are staffed with physician assistants.
  •  Can serve as a regular checkpoint for health monitoring and care.
  •  Are conveniently located at a select Walgreens store near you.
  •  Are open 7 days a week with weekend and evening hours.
  •  Appointments are available, but walk-ins are fine.
  •  Accept most forms of insurance.
For regular health check-ins, click here to find a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic near you. Now with more services to help you manage your family's healthcare needs.
For a chance to win a $100 Walgreens Gift Card, just answer the question, "When could you use convenient healthcare?" in the comments below. That's it.
Good luck.....See you at the beach.

The Latest Craze The 'Cough In Elbow' Dance

Just as the Gangnam Dance has gone viral, so has the 'Cough in Elbow' dance. Have you heard of it?  It's the next You Tube Sensation.  Right now grown men, women, and children of all ages are experiencing this centuries old dance craze. The 'Cough in Elbow' can be seen across the country night or day when a cough or sneeze is present.
It's also the latest craze around here at my house, particularly during flu season. Getting our dance on, helps us to prevent the spreading of those unwanted germs during flu season, and with 3 little ones, we dance and disinfect a lot.
Since technique is everything in fighting germs, I have asked my main  'cough in elbow' dancer (and her puppy) to demonstrate the proper moves for you so you can help prevent the spread of germs by touch by these simple dance steps.
Step 1- Pick an arm, any arm and fully extend it in front of you, while holding on to your favorite puppy.
Step 2- Take that arm and bend it at the elbow in front of your body with your favorite puppy looking on.
Step 3- When you feel a cough or sneeze being initiated take that elbow and raise it to you mouth, quickly.  That's important. This will help to eliminate the need to touch your mouth and possibly spreading the germs from the cough or sneeze on to your hands or on to the puppy.
Some other quick tips from puppy to help prevent cold and flu preventation in your household~
Wash Your Hands Frequently throughout the day: Wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. I also use Clorox Cleaner with bleach around the sink basins to get any of the unwanted germs that were left behind.
Disinfect Germ Hot Spots: Disinfect the surfaces you touch frequently – like the remote control, doorknobs, light switches, faucets and plastic toys with Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes to kill flu viruses.  I also keep a few of the wipes in a plastic bag in the car and use on the handle of shopping carts at the stores.   Shoppers have germs too!
Follow Good Health Guidelines: You have heard it before and will hear it again, but you need to eat right, exercise and get plenty of sleep to help boost your body’s ability to fight the effects of colds and flu.
You can visit Clorox.com to learn more about the importance of disinfecting and other tips for keeping you and your family happy and healthy. *Use as directed

Good luck and keep on dancing and disinfecting!
Grateful for~
No flu in my household this year thanks to my Clorox products!

Fill Up The Bath

One of  my favorite ways to indulge myself ( not including Ben and Jerry's ice cream) is to take a  hot bath in my claw foot tub. These days those opportunites don't come around as often as I would like unless I-
1) lock the doors and barricade myself inside the bathroom
2) surrender and just let the kids take a bath with me
My  preference is option #1 and for my next bath I will be trying out a Lavendar Salt Scrub that Kate from Centsational Girl made.

How perfect is this? Whether for yourself or to use as gifts, this is so easy to make. I  never would have imagined making salt scrub myself. You should try it too!
Here's to our soft and sweet smelling skin.
Cheers!
